The right hand combines sustained phrases with rapid ornamental figures, while the left hand moves continuously through broken-chord patterns marked sempre legato. The exercise also develops balance between melody and accompaniment, control of long slurs, and gradual dynamic shaping through crescendos and diminuendos.
