Carl Czerny

Portrait of composer Carl Czerny
Carl Czerny (1791–1857) was an Austrian pianist, teacher, and composer whose piano studies are central to piano technique and piano pedagogy. Collections such as The School of Velocity, The Art of Finger Dexterity, and many graded etudes train speed, accuracy, and evenness from elementary to virtuoso level. His works remain standard piano teaching repertoire, and as a teacher he famously instructed Franz Liszt.
